Annual Dick and Judy Contino Accordion Scholarship Eligibility

The Cotati Accordion Festival is pleased to announce that a special $1,200 scholarship will be awarded during the festival. Here’s the criteria to see how students qualify and how to become eligible to receive this award.

The Cotati Accordion Student Scholarship Coordinator works with the Assistant Coordinator to review and approve eligible applicants before the competition. The final decision to award the scholarship derives from stipulated eligibility, appropriate selections, and the highest score using a point system as explained in the adjudication form. An overall superior achievement must be evident in the final decision before the scholarship can be awarded.

Please review the adjudication form to learn more about the details and to be fully informed as to specific areas of examination in each of these categories:

1. Accuracy & Technique (30%)

2. Rhythm & Timing (30%)

3. Overall musicianship (30%)

4. Appearance (10%)

Basic eligibility requirements to qualify for the Contino Scholarship:

  • Students must be entering either the junior or senior year of high school or in the junior or senior year, and/or just graduated.
  • Students must not be older than 18 years of age when applying & performing.
  • All other requirements must be satisfied in the application process. Technical level requirements:
    • Students must exhibit superior technical skills and a proficient ability as exhibited in their presentation of four contrasting pieces. (Level of difficulty is a major consideration).*
    • In addition, the winning student should attain the highest or second highest score in all requirements to be considered eligible. (While it is possible that a student in lower grade levels might excel in points, they are not eligible to win the Contino Award).

* The Cotati Accordion Student Scholarship Coordinator reserves the right to suggest and to approve substitution piece(s) if any submitted piece should fall short in terms of the required competition level of difficulty. SMC 5/25/2022
