Balkan Laikus Review

There is so much rich history in the story of the Cotati Accordion Festival. Since 1991, numerous sensational acts have graced our stage and made an impact that stays with us, even as time leaps on ahead. One of those memorable acts was Limpopo.

In the 2008 “Sergeant Pepper” poster ADD LINK TO POSTER created by Pat Ryan, the figures that originally were the Beatles, are replaced by the members of Limpopo. Their exhilarating, Roma/ Russian based music, engaging stage presence, and superb accordion playing on both ends of the stage, will always be remembered as a high point in our festival history. The 2008 poster, probably in the top five of all time in popularity, is a tangible reminder of the joy of Limpopo.

This year, we are proud to announce that we have Uriy Fedorco from Limpopo back with us again in the band BALKAN LAIKUS.

Balkan Laikus is a Roma Rock Band (a.k.a. Flying Balalaika Brothers) that blends modern-day and traditional sounds to create a futuristic fusion of experimental world music. With the skill and mastery of the accordion by both Zhenya Rock and Uriy Fedorco, Balkan Laikus brings us a gypsy like sound that is totally unique and unmatched.

Balkan Laikus is a shining example of cross-cultural communication and assimilation, demonstrating the true potential and beauty of multicultural cooperation and harmony in the world. Their music brings people together, transcending language, race, and culture. What better fit could there be for the multicultural Cotati Accordion Festival?
