Matt Mustaro is fifteen years old, a junior currently enrolled in Independent study.
Music has played an important part in Matt’s life. He began playing violin at age five and has studied privately with Yoko Acheson since 1994. Over the years Matt has attended several summer violin workshops.
Matt is a third year member of the Santa Rosa Symphony Youth Orchestra and a past member of the Young Peoples Chamber Orchestra. Last year he had the opportunity to play with the Santa Rosa Symphony under Jeffrey Kahane, performing Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony to sold out houses. He is a current recipient of a Santa Rosa Symphony Juanita Harp Scholarship to aid with private violin lessons.
This fall Matt joined a string quartet with his older brother at Santa Rosa Junior College under the direction of Gary McLaughlin. A recent highlight of this ensemble was a coaching session with the Shanghai String Quartet.
For the past three years Matt has been playing piano accordion. In October 2000 he was awarded a music scholarship by the Accordion Club of the Redwoods to assist in his studies with Bart Beninco with whom he has been studying since May 1999. He performs occasionally for the Accordion Club of the Redwoods which meets monthly in Petaluma.
