Jessica Fichot

Los Angeles-based chanteuse/songwriter Jessica Fichot is a lot like her hometown of Paris: worldly, seductive, and ever-ripe for revolution. With a French/Chinese/American upbringing and a pioneering spirit all her own, Fichot has brought the exotic charms of her imagination to audiences across the world, backed by a fiery band (clarinet/sax, upright bass, drums and guitar), and armed with her accordion, toy piano, and multilingual vocals. Her first albums Le Chemin and Le Secret offer a beguiling musical tour of French chanson, gypsy jazz and folk, captivating listeners with an international savvy and a cross-cultural whimsy that’s utterly infectious. Time to grab the passport again: Fichot’s latest musical adventure, Dear Shanghai is an ambitious and intoxicating celebration of the swing-era sounds of her mother’s hometown. Sung entirely in Mandarin Chinese, Fichot’s winning covers of 1940s Shanghai jazz gems conspire with her own inspired originals to turn listeners on to the musical terrain of a bygone era half a world away. “Delightful (…) Tunes that evoke the feel of a bygone time and place, where the cultures of east and west collide in unexpected ways.”– LA Weekly
“a delicious mix of acoustic styles” – San Francisco Chronicle
