Jamming for a New Years Eve party in 2004, Marie Meredith (accordion) Elizabeth Cabraser (drums) and Nancy Vogl (bass) had so much fun they stayed together and formed Polkanomics! Joining them soon after, from New York, was Suzanne Shanbaum on guitar.
Drawing from their favorite songs from their 50’s and 60’s childhoods, they cover many styles – Latin Standards, Tex Mex, some Rock and of course, crowd-pleasing Polkas. Marie Meredith, a long-time member of the Redwood Empire Accordion Club, is a player whose inimitable style combines the legendary techniques of past accordion stars with an eclectic contemporary approach. Polkanomics’ members include Musicians from the heyday of the Women’s Music movement. They are Sonoma County residents who play for many fundraisers and community events. At the Cotati Accordion Festival two years ago, Flaco Jimenez gave them high praise for the Polkanomics’ version of his father’s song, La Napolera, one of the bands favorites.
